What is your training?
I received a Master’s Degree in Marriage, Couples, and Family Therapy from Lewis & Clark College. My coursework was focused on systemic family therapy. The clinical training I received was centered around using behavioral approaches to provide relational and trauma-informed therapy strategies to individuals, couples and families with mental health or relational concerns in both individual and family therapy sessions.
What is your experience with children and teens?
My experience with youth began in 2006 when I volunteered as a camp counselor every summer until 2011. I continued my work with young children in early childhood education settings working with 1-6 year olds as a teacher and family advocate. My primary focus as a Child and Family Therapist has been supporting children ages 6-14 years old along with their families and support systems.
What can I expect if I come to see you?
My approach to therapy is strength-based, transparent and a collaborative effort between the client, the family and myself. Throughout the therapeutic treatment process I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Play Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and attachment-based therapy modalities to support families in creating change. I approach family and individual counseling from a systemic viewpoint to address how societal systems can impact and influence our relationships and individual well-being.
What are therapy appointments like? What will we do?
During our first few sessions we will focus on getting to know each other and discussing your goals for treatment. I like to use humor and a playful approach in sessions to build our therapeutic relationship and trust. This may look like playing board games, creating art, or playing together. My primary focus is to provide a safe space for you to feel accepted and supported, so that you may feel comfortable showing up as your authentic self in session.
