I hold the philosophy that regardless of our efforts, some situations become unbearable under the stress of everyday life. No one is immune or fortunate enough to avoid anger, sadness, sickness, and worry. My intent is to create an accepting environment for you and your family to feel safe, to seek fulfillment, and to find joy in all the madness that life brings.
I use evidence based therapies and will work with you and your family to develop an individualized plan to help you reach your goals and find life and relationships more fulfilling. I often utilize art and play with children in order to encourage self expression and emotion regulation. Currently, I draw from the therapeutic models of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). ACT is a type of therapy that teaches acceptance of mistakes and commitment to the life you want to live. It encourages finding peace in the moments of joy as well as the moments of pain.
I received a Masters in Counseling and a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy from John Brown University in 2009. Since this time, I have received continuing education in areas of trauma, abuse, self harm, CBT, ACT, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. I have received specialized training in parent management training and behavioral therapies to work collaboratively with families to address behavioral and emotional needs of children.
Since my graduation in 2009 I have worked with kids, teens, and families in various contexts and settings. I have worked with kids ranging from age 4 to early adulthood as well as working with families and couples to best assist the family system.
My therapeutic style is one of acceptance and security. Expect me to be laid back, compassionate, and open. I fully believe that everyone’s story makes sense in its given context. No one issue is cookie cutter. I will develop a plan based on your needs and preferences, using a therapeutic approach and services that will best help you reach your goals. I believe no problem is too big or too small. We will work together to get you where you want to be.
